“What I find appealing about the capitalists is the representation of love of capital in the form of these ponderous and somewhat cuddly, elephantine gentlemen.
I don’t actually have this love of capital myself. I just earn and spend and don’t care to accumulate ownership of economic leverage. But I owe a debt to these guys for causing the system I depend upon to be so rigorously supported. It is not greed they display in their obvious affection for their boxes and it is way past them just buying things with money.. They seem happy with just principle.
If these guys really knew that people like me would never trade our failure to succeed as American dreamers for their carefully guarded lives of accumulation they might be upset at making it so easy to do so well as a parenthetical aside to the herd. But they’re serene and comfortable while life goes on all around them in other (perhaps a bit more adroit) forms like cats and street urchins.
It really is true that the financial structure is all we have in the face of six billion going on twelve billion people to support on our little planet and with a current lift-off cost of $10,000 per pound even the very skinniest of us ain’t going anywhere.”
